The split between reads and writes is the whole idea here. Queries run straight against Bear's SQLite file in read-only mode, so a lookup works even when Bear is closed, and ranking spans titles, bodies and hierarchical tags instead of matching a literal substring — subtags roll up, so a search under a parent tag reaches everything beneath it. Writes take the other path, through Bear's own x-callback URL handler, which means the app validates and applies them atomically. Four read tools are on by default; Edit Mode adds eight for creating, appending at a heading, attaching files and renaming tags library-wide. macOS only, no network calls, no telemetry.
