The distinction from a one-shot diagram generator is the feedback loop: the canvas persists, individual elements can be queried and updated, and the agent can screenshot its own work to see that labels overflow or arrows cross before fixing them. What comes out is an editable .excalidraw file that lives beside the code and gets updated when the architecture changes, not a flat image. Twenty-six tools cover element creation, layout and export over stdio, with the same canvas also reachable through a CLI for coding agents and a plain REST API for custom frameworks. The canvas server starts itself when a command needs it, and the drawing path runs entirely locally — sharing to excalidraw.com is opt-in.
