Downloading media out of a conversation is split into two tools on purpose, and that split is the useful part: a photo or video uploaded straight into the thread and a post or reel someone shared sit behind different endpoints, so list_messages exposes item_type on every message and the model picks download_media_from_message or download_shared_post_from_message accordingly. Sending covers text, photo and video addressed by username. Reading covers thread listing with filters, the separate pending inbox, keyword search over threads, lookup by participant ids and marking a message seen. It authenticates with an ordinary Instagram username and password against the private mobile API, which is why it can reach DMs at all and also why it can break without warning.
