PlanetScale runs the server itself: the client connects over HTTP and authorises with OAuth, so nothing is installed locally. Tools cover organisations, databases, branches and branch schemas, alongside separate read and write query execution. Insights data, schema recommendations and documentation search are exposed too, which makes reviewing a slow query as practical as running it.
