A Telegram bot is publicly addressable — anyone who finds the username can write to it — so the gate matters more here than the setup does. An unapproved direct message gets a six-character pairing code and is dropped; the sender is approved from inside the assistant session, and the allowlist keeps the permanent numeric user ID rather than the mutable @username. Groups are opted in individually against the negative supergroup ID. The MCP server runs locally on Bun and re-reads its access file on every message, so edits apply immediately. One documented quirk saves a debugging session: the acknowledgement reaction accepts only Telegram's fixed emoji whitelist, and anything outside it fails silently instead of erroring.
