Datadog runs the server on its own side: the client connects to a regional HTTPS endpoint and authorizes with OAuth or an access token, so nothing has to be installed locally. Capabilities are grouped into toolsets — dashboards, alerting, error tracking, security signals, RUM and more — and the URL decides which ones load, keeping the tool list small. A local binary and a Claude Code plugin are also published for setups that cannot reach the remote endpoint.
