A model asked to match a codebase's style normally infers it from nearby files, which reproduces whatever inconsistency already exists and misses rules that only fire in specific cases. This server, shipped by the ESLint project as @eslint/mcp, makes the agent run the actual linter: flat config, installed plugins, custom rules and all. From the editor you can ask which rules a file violates, have the fixable ones applied, or get the remaining errors explained before deciding. It runs over stdio, so nothing leaves the machine and the answer matches exactly what the pre-commit hook and CI will report.
