IoTDB speaks two SQL dialects and this server changes its tool set to match, which is the detail to understand before configuring it. In tree mode the tools follow the timeseries path hierarchy — metadata_query runs SHOW and COUNT over databases, devices, child paths and timeseries — while table mode swaps in the familiar list_tables and describe_table pair over ordinary relational schema. Both dialects share an export tool that writes results to CSV or Excel and returns only a ten-row preview, which is what keeps a large sensor scan out of the context window instead of flooding it. Aggregations such as SUM, AVG, VARIANCE and MIN_TIME run inside the database. Timestamps use ISO 8601. An official Apache project; connection host, port, credentials and dialect are set by environment variable.
