MarkItDown converts a long list of formats into markdown that preserves structure — headings, lists and tables survive, which is what a model needs to reason about a document. The MCP wrapper exposes one conversion tool that accepts a local path or a URL, covering Office documents, PDFs, images with OCR, audio transcripts, HTML and archives. Keeping table structure is the detail that separates it from a plain text extractor.
