OpenAlex is the open replacement for the discontinued Microsoft Academic Graph, and the useful thing about a full catalogue is that questions like which institutions co-publish on a topic become queries rather than manual reading. The detail that saves the most work here is the curated presets: journal sets such as UTD24, FT50 and the AJG/ABS tiers, plus institution groups like the Ivy League, are shipped as named filters — a phrase like top-tier venues becomes a concrete, reproducible list instead of a judgement call the model makes on its own. Search supports Boolean operators, venue and institution filters, citation thresholds and sorting; related-work and citation-graph tools handle the traversal. Supplying an email joins OpenAlex's faster polite pool.
