Where a maps server calls someone else's endpoint, this one exposes the libraries a GIS analyst already uses, which means projections, overlays and raster windows are computed on the machine rather than billed per request. The library split is visible in the tool list: Shapely for geometry predicates and operations, PyProj for coordinate transforms, GeoPandas for tabular spatial joins, Rasterio for raster reads and reprojection, and PySAL for spatial statistics such as autocorrelation — the last of which almost no other geospatial server offers. Data-gathering tools pull administrative boundaries, climate, land cover, movement and satellite imagery into the same session. It runs over stdio or HTTP, ships a Docker image, and can read and write either the local filesystem or Google Cloud Storage.
