MCP servers for Claude Desktop

The most used MCP servers, each with a config you can paste into Claude Desktop.

MCP servers give Claude Desktop access to local tools and resources, such as file search and file operations. The list below includes a ready JSON config for each server.

Where the config lives

Open the Claude menu, choose Settings, then Developer, and click Edit Config. This opens or creates Claude Desktop’s configuration file:

macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
Windows: %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json

This file tells Claude Desktop which local servers to start and how to connect to them. For the Filesystem Server, directory paths in args define which folders it can access.

Add a server

Choose a server below and check its prerequisites. For servers that require Node.js, run node --version to check your installation.
Open the configuration file through Edit Config.
If the file is empty, paste the complete JSON block. If it already contains servers, merge the entries inside the supplied mcpServers object into your existing mcpServers object. Keep one top-level mcpServers object and preserve existing entries.
Replace example values with your own. For filesystem directories, use valid absolute paths. Check commas and braces so the file remains valid JSON.
Save the file, completely quit Claude Desktop, and reopen it to load the configuration.

Check that it works

Open “Add files, connectors, and more /” beside the conversation input, then Connectors and Manage connectors to inspect the server’s tools. For the Filesystem Server, try asking Claude to find files in an allowed folder.

If the server is missing, check JSON syntax and paths, then restart. Inspect mcp.log for connection failures and mcp-server-SERVERNAME.log for server output under:

macOS: ~/Library/Logs/Claude
Windows: %APPDATA%\Claude\logs

Security

Grant the Filesystem Server access only to folders you permit Claude to read and modify. It runs with your user account’s permissions.
Review each file operation before approving it. Deny requests you do not want executed.
