MCP servers for Cursor

The most used MCP servers, each with a config you can paste into Cursor.

Adding an MCP server lets Cursor use external tools and read data from connected services. Each server in the list below includes a ready JSON config with a top-level mcpServers object.

Where the config lives

Use .cursor/mcp.json in your project for project-specific tools. Use ~/.cursor/mcp.json in your home directory for tools available across projects.

Add a server

  1. Choose a server below and copy its JSON config.
  2. Open or create the config file for your chosen scope. For a new file, paste the whole block. If the file already contains servers, merge the new server entry into its existing mcpServers object, keeping the other entries.
  3. Fill in any required paths, URLs and authentication settings. Reference secrets with ${env:NAME}. For a local server, make sure its command is available on your system path or uses the executable's full path.
  4. Save the file. Open Customize in Cursor's sidebar and enable the server. Complete OAuth sign-in if the server requires it.

Check that it works

Find the server's tools under Available Tools, then ask Cursor in chat to use a tool by name. Cursor requests approval by default; expand the arrow beside the tool name to inspect its arguments.

If a call fails, open the Output panel with Cmd+Shift+U or Ctrl+Shift+U and select MCP Logs. Look for connection errors, authentication failures or server crashes. You can retry the call or toggle the server in Customize while troubleshooting.

Security

  • Choose trusted developers and repositories, and review what data and APIs the server can access.
  • Keep secrets in environment variables and give API keys only the permissions they need.
  • Review server source code before connecting sensitive systems; run servers handling sensitive data locally through stdio.
